Position description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach courses in general Chemistry 2022-2023 during the academic year, including 2022 summer session.

Main duties will include teaching courses in general chemistry and biochemistry, with the possibility of occasional upper-division teaching opportunities.

The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must have completed all requirements for an M.A or M.S. degree in chemistry or a related field

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Degree must be conferred by time of appointment

Preferred qualifications
  • PhD degree
  • The ability to organize and instruct lecture courses in chemistry and organic chemistry
  • Teaching at the college level
  • Experience with large lecture formats (>250 students)
  • Knowledge of open source online content, such as Moodle, and the use of technology in the classroom, such as iclicker
  • High academic achievement, excellent interpersonal skills, exemplary teaching and mentoring is highly desired
