Duties and responsibilities:

The main purpose of this post is the training and education of undergraduate and post-graduate students in Engineering Sciences according to Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and SAQA outcomes. It is also required to build the knowledge base of the engineering discipline through research and publication.
Lecturers, as junior academics, should work to improve their academic credentials and to establish themselves in a research area. Academics are also required to be active in some form of community engagement related to their discipline. This can be in professional forums, or in service delivery through NGOs and other avenues.

• Provide and facilitate teaching, learning, and assessment.
• Develop learning material and course content, to ensure continuity in relevance and maintenance of quality.
• Provide opportunities for individual student interaction and consultation.
• Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.
• Be involved in the programmes of the Discipline, School and Faculty.

• Develop his/her research programme.
• Develop his/her active research programme that should be evidenced by publications, presentations, and eventually obtain a doctoral degree.
• Publish on average 1 SAPSE/ISI journal article per 2-year cycle.
• Update knowledge and understanding in the field of specialisation.

Community Engagement

• Develop links with relevant industries and external bodies.
• Maintain own professional registration with professional bodies and Associations, if applicable.

• Become acquainted with all relevant University and Faculty policies and to implement these appropriately.
• Serve on School, Faculty and University wide bodies as applicable.
• Execute administrative duties as designated by the Head of the School/ Department.

Inherent requirements:

• A Master’s degree on NQF level 9 in Engineering (Agricultural Engineering) or relevant related discipline with at least one year of academic or industry or research experience.
• A Bachelor’s degree on NQF level 8 in Engineering (Agricultural Engineering) with a minimum of 3 years' relevant industry and or academic experience. 
• Relevant registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or equivalent professional engineering body, as well as discipline specific Associations(s).
