The Drama Department in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester invites applications for a Lecturer in Film Studies, tenable from 1 August 2021. The successful candidate will be a film studies teacher and researcher with a track record of produced and published work of international significance, a proven ability as an excellent teacher, and potential to contribute to the developing profile of Film Studies at the University of Manchester. Applications in any area of film, television and media studies are welcome, although preference will be given to applicants with a specialism in cinemas and screen cultures from outside Europe and North America, particularly in African, South Asian or Southeast Asian cinemas. Candidates with specialisms outside of conventional national cinema boundaries, such as in indigenous and/or diasporic cinemas are also welcome to apply.

You will play a leading role in the design and delivery of film studies courses on our Film and Drama undergraduate degree programmes, working alongside a team of successful screen and theatre researchers. The successful candidate will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching and research strategy supporting Film at Manchester, including through publication of high quality peer-reviewed outputs, the potential to attract external research funding, to lead undergraduate and Masters level teaching and supervision, recruit and supervise PhD students, and contribute to the management and administration of the department under the guidance of Head of Department. You will contribute fully to the Department’s other activities, including its public events series, collaborations with external cultural institutions, and activities relating to the University’s social responsibility goals.
