Job Description

The Music Department at the University of Manchester invites applications for a permanent Lectureship in Composition, tenable from 1 September 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter). This position has become available following the retirement of Professor Kevin Malone. You will hold a PhD degree (or similar qualification) in music composition and have a developing track record of producing research outputs of international quality. You will have a research and teaching specialism in vocal and instrumental composition and a secondary specialism in one or more of the following areas: composing for film and visual media, music theatre, community music, and/or music production.

You will be a committed and versatile teacher and will be expected to convene and deliver course units across the curriculum in instrumental and vocal composition. You will also contribute teaching to units on our new MusM Composition (Film and Game) pathway and our other PGT composition pathways.

You will also participate in the broader management and administration of the department under the guidance of the Head of Department.
