Job Description

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics seeks part-time instructor(s) to teach 4-credit sections of beginning and/or intermediate Spanish during the Spring 2026 semester.

  • Semester begins: January 12, 2026

  • Appointment begins: January 5, 2026

Courses to Be Taught

SPA 101 – Spanish I (4 credits)
Introductory, proficiency-based course preparing students to understand, speak, read, and write Spanish in culturally authentic contexts. Conducted entirely in Spanish.

SPA 102 – Spanish II (4 credits)
Continues development of foundational listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Conducted in Spanish.

SPA 201 – Spanish III (4 credits)
Refines and expands prior linguistic skills with emphasis on culturally authentic contexts. Conducted in Spanish.

SPA 202 – Spanish IV (4 credits)
Focuses on the analysis and discussion of authentic texts to develop interpretive and expressive ability. Conducted in Spanish.

Note: Pay rate for successful candidates will be based on their per-credit rate history within the department. All offers are contingent on funding availability and course enrollment.


Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required

  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish required

  • University-level teaching experience preferred


Responsibilities

Teaching assignments may include:

  • Developing and/or updating the course syllabus

  • Ordering required textbooks and materials in advance

  • Preparing lectures, activities, and assignments

  • Holding two office hours per week

  • Providing instruction aligned with course competencies and performance goals

  • Meeting all scheduled class sessions

  • Notifying the department of absences and arranging coverage or rescheduling

  • Supporting departmental student learning outcomes

  • Submitting mid-semester progress reports and final grades on time

  • Grading assignments and exams promptly

  • Facilitating department-sanctioned student evaluations

  • Completing all responsibilities as outlined in departmental policies for part-time instructors

  • Fostering a positive and professional learning environment
