University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music invites applications for an opening as a Part-Time Lecturer in Music Industry for the Spring 2021 semester.

Duties 

Principal duties will include:

  • Teaching MUIN 430, Artist Management and Development, 4 units.This course is open to Music Industry majors and minors.This course will be taught wholly or substantially online.
  • Individual mentoring of student Capstone Projects, if needed and assigned.

Qualifications 

The successful candidate will be an experienced, gifted teacher with a minimum of one year of college teaching experience, or similar related teaching experience. Teaching in an online environment is a plus.

The successful candidate will also have these qualifications:

Required:  Bachelor’s degree in music industry, business administration or related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of practical experience working in the field as an Artist Manager for top industry artist(s)-possessing the skills listed below.   Eight (8) years of practical experience as an Artist Manager for top industry artist(s)-possessing the skills listed below may be substituted for an undergraduate degree.

Preferred:  Master’s degree in music industry, business administration or related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of practical experience working in the field as an Artist Manager for top industry artist(s), singer(s), songwriters(s) and / or producer(s)-possessing the skills listed below.

In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following skills and or experience(s):

  • An understanding of the current music industry trends;
  • A wide range of industry contacts;
  • Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills;
  • A strong working knowledge of the music industry- in many of the following areas- record labels (both major and independent), music publishing companies, record producers, music licensing, marketing/branding, tour planning, budgeting and negotiating.
