The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at UCLA seeks applications for the position of a Lecturer in Persian language.
The candidate must have an M.A. in Iranian Studies, Near Eastern Languages (with a specialty in Persian language and literature), or applied linguistics; a Ph.D. is preferred. The candidate should also have native or near-native proficiency in Persian, including familiarity with classical Persian literature. Extensive experience and demonstrated excellence in college-level Persian language teaching at all levels to diverse groups of students, including heritage learners, are required. Candidates with specialized training in second language acquisition and pedagogy, familiarity with communicative methods of language instruction, including online language teaching, and a history of community engagement/outreach, are especially encouraged to apply.
The position will be expected to teach a total of eight courses over the 2022–2023 academic year, which begins July 1, 2022. The courses encompass elementary and intermediate, as well as third year advanced, Persian.
Responsibilities will include coordination of Persian language instruction, active participation in curricular development, and supervision of teaching assistants.
This position is one year with the possibility of subsequent renewal. Advancement to Continuing lecturer is possible within 6 years upon a successful Excellence Review, and to Senior Lecturer after 12 years of successful appointments.
