About the Role

The Department of English in the School of English and Drama in Queen Mary’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks to appoint a 12 months fixed term, full-time (1.0fte) Lecturer in Postcolonial Studies. We particularly welcome applicants with expertise in the following areas: Anglophone African literatures; Anglophone Caribbean literatures; literatures of the Black Atlantic. The successful applicant will be able to contribute to team teaching in postcolonial literary studies, to teach specialist modules where appropriate, and be able to demonstrate they have an innovative approach to the current state of postcolonial/world literatures. Modules to be taught may include: Postcolonial and Global Literatures; After Postcolonialism; James Baldwin and American Civil Rights.  

About You

The successful candidate will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in English, or a related field, and must have a growing research profile and substantial plans for future research. They will join a Department committed to an interdisciplinary and global approach to Anglophone literary studies, and with significant expertise in postcolonial and world literatures. Experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels in large and small group settings is an essential requirement.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time with an expected start date of 1 September 2021. The starting salary will be Academic and Education Grade 5 spinal point 35, £42,433 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
