Duties: the successful applicant will be expected to: (i) teach both undergraduate and graduate family medicine courses; (ii) conduct research in his/her areas of expertise and supervise medical students and residents  research projects; (iii) engage with the University, profession and community; (iv) provide clinical care in affiliated primary health care clinics and hospitals, and; (v) carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of the department.
 
 
Requirements: 
 

  1. Senior Lecturer: (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery or other recognised medical doctor qualification (MD); (ii) a specialist qualification in Family Medicine with a minimum of 3 years post-specialisation experience in professional practice in Family Medicine; (iii) the qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) evidence of professional specialisation in Family Medicine and evidence of active license to practice where appropriate; (v) at least 3 years University teaching experience or equivalent or 1 year of sustained mentorship/practice related training which would be considered as an alternative; (vi) minimum of 6 pieces of research products, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals indexed in internationally recognised indexing databases; (vii) sustained research output, e.g. a minimum of 1 peer-reviewed publication every 2 years or new clinical excellence output every 6 years or since appointment; viii) sustained research activity (ongoing internally and externally funded research projects);  (ix) be lead and/or last author in at least 2 journal articles or book chapters; (x) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (xi) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, clinical effectiveness, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions, etc.; (xii) recognised as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing; (xiii) evidence of governance, professional and community engagement.
     
  2. Lecturer: (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery or other recognised medical doctor qualification (MD); (ii) a specialist qualification in Family Medicine (iii) the qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) evidence of professional specialisation in Family Medicine and evidence of active license to practice where appropriate; (v) evidence of engagement in research, including published journal articles, presentation of scholarly work at seminars and conferences locally as well as internationally, participation in research teams and collaborative programmes, participating in reference committees.

Added advantages: (i) experience of teaching at a university or comparable institution; ii) evidence of governance and social engagement.

The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of the publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorised into books, book chapters, monographs, refereed journals, non-refereed journals, etc.
