Role Description

Department

We seek a Lecturer with expertise in sound recording, music production and digital signal processing. The post is offered on a full-time open contract basis, and includes teaching, research and administration. You will have a research specialism that complements our strengths in audio engineering, sound recording and production, and expertise that ideally allows us to develop our teaching (and potentially research) in the area of popular music and popular music production.

Role

You will lead our MA in Music Production or BA Music and Sound Recording and contribute to both programmes. You will supervise individual undergraduates, MA students and PhD students. Your administrative duties will involve participation in the departmental Board of Studies and committees related to teaching, research and/or technology, as well as activities related to student recruitment, pastoral care and public outreach. You will undertake a programme of independent research that complements the work of our Music, Science and Technology Research Cluster, includes major grant applications and leads to high-quality outputs suitable for inclusion in the Department’s submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • You will have a PhD in Music Technology, Audio Engineering or a related subject with appropriate academic teaching qualifications or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
  • You will have specialist knowledge of sound recording, music production and digital signal processing.
  • You will have experience in research methodologies and in developing research objectives, projects and proposals.
  • You will be able to evidence dissemination of research findings through various means, for example, publications in research journals or presentation of papers at conferences.
  • You will be able to design and deliver teaching material across a range of modules and programmes and have evidence of successful Higher Education course planning and student supervision.
  • You will have knowledge and experience of a range of teaching techniques to enthuse and engage students.
  • You will have highly developed oral and written communication skills.
  • You will have a commitment to high quality, and be able to display creativity, initiative and judgement.
  • You will demonstrate a collaborative ethos, be willing to work proactively with colleagues and display a positive attitude towards colleagues and students.
  • You will show commitment to the Department/University through the undertaking of management and administration duties.
