The Opportunity

The Communications and Media Studies program at Monash University is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to contribute to teaching and research in the fields of public relations, strategic communications and/or digital communications. The Communications and Media Studies program operates within the School of Media, Film and Journalism.

The Communications and Media Studies teaching program offers an undergraduate major to Honours level in the Bachelor of Arts and teaches into the new, fast-growing Bachelor of Media Communication. It also has thriving graduate programs in the Master of Communications and Media Studies, the Master of Strategic Communications Management and the Master of Cultural and Creative Industries. The program’s researchers are engaged in a series of internationally-focussed projects that explain what it means to live in an age of powerful media and cultural institutions, proliferating digital and mobile technologies, and everyday media and cultural practices. Projects include those funded by the Australian Research Council and industry partners.

This position requires an active and innovative academic to contribute to quality teaching through unit coordination and project supervision at undergraduate, Honours and Masters level. The successful appointee will coordinate units, prepare and present lectures and/or seminars, undertake marking and contribute to curriculum development. The discipline is looking particularly for Lecturers or Senior Lecturers who are able to coordinate and teach units within the Public Relations Specialisation in the Bachelor of Media Communications and the Master of Strategic Communications Management.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in the discipline area and show capacity to contribute strongly to research development in Communication and Media Studies at Monash. We would be particularly interested in applicants with the expertise to build a strong research and teaching profile in public relations, strategic communications and/or digital communications. You will also be able to show capacity for development in leadership roles, particularly in the management of Undergraduate and Masters programs.

Please note, interviews for this position will take place early to mid-December 2019.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. This position at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to "How to apply for Monash jobs".
