The Asia Institute is The University of Melbourne's key centre for studies in Asian languages, cultures and societies. Asia Institute academic staff have an array of research interests and specialisations, and strive to provide leadership in the study of the intellectual, legal, politico-economic, cultural and religious traditions and transformations of Asia and the Islamic world. The Institute is committed to community engagement and offers a dynamic program of academic and community-focused events and cultural exchanges that aim to promote dialogue and debate.

The Korean program was introduced to the Asia Institute in 2017 and is still in its formative stages with two language and three non-language subjects available in 2020. The program is seeking a senior lecturer with experience in the development of Language Programs and in teaching Korean language to tertiary students.

The Faculty welcome applications from Korean Studies/Language specialists, with suitable research and teaching experience, to fill this position. The new appointee will work to develop the Language program as well as support existing programs and in addition to new areas of research and training.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and will assist in the development of new subjects as appropriate; supervision of RHD students is also a requirement. The incumbent will also undertake research resulting in publications with leading publishers in the field, foster engagement links with external networks/partners nationally and internationally and will take on administrative tasks associated with the appointment.
