What You Will Do

We invite applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in Forest Health and Biosecurity where you will develop an active teaching and research programme (equivalent to tenured Assistant or Associate Professor in the US System). The level of appointment will depend on the successful candidate's relevant experience.

The successful applicant will undertake research, teach undergraduate courses, supervise postgraduate students and develop links with the New Zealand forestry sector, as well as collaborate with other academics in the School's teaching, research and administrative activities.

Who You Are

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in a relevant field and have a successful research record in forest health or biosecurity with research experience relevant to New Zealand plantation and/or indigenous forests. The successful applicant will have the ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses that cover forest health and biosecurity including: the role of pathogens and insect pests in forests, the impact of vertebrate pests on forest systems, the impact and mitigation of abiotic forest health factors and biosecurity risk management, including the effects of climate change.

The School of Forestry provides internationally-recognised New Zealand-relevant forestry education and research. It offers the only professional forestry degree programmes in New Zealand. The role of the School of Forestry is:

  • To produce forestry (Science and Engineering) graduates of the highest calibre who can manage forests and other natural resources and associated enterprises for a range of outcomes;
  • To undertake excellent and innovative research;
  • To be an independent voice on forestry issues and to be active in promoting forestry in the community;
  • To give effect to Treaty of Waitangi obligations.

The successful applicant will be expected to also engage and interact with the School of Biological Sciences and other relevant departments.
