Lectureship in Analytical Chemistry, School of Chemistry, College of Science, Engineering & Food Science

Specific Purpose Whole-time Post

(anticipated duration of 3 years)

UCC wishes to appoint an experienced academic to the above role in the Analytical Chemistry section of the School of Chemistry. Reporting to the Head of School, the appointee will teach and undertake project supervision in undergraduate degrees of Chemistry, Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Compounds (CPC) and Chemistry with Forensic Science (CFS), and in taught PG and MSc programmes. The successful applicant’s teaching activities will be directed towards bioanalytical chemistry, separation science, trace analysis, detection and chemometrics.

The successful applicant’s research activities will form an integral part of the Analytical Chemistry section, including the Analytical and Biological Chemistry Research Facility (ABCRF) with their growing industrial, national and international engagements. Research strength in bioanalytical chemistry is primarily required, with expertise desirable in the techniques of bioanalysis and various spectroscopic techniques, as applied to the analysis in biopharmaceutical, process analysis and biologics. These areas are critical to the research, industrial engagement and training mission of Analytical Chemistry within the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science. However, applications from candidates having a vibrant research activity or having the potential to establish such an activity in any emerging area of Analytical Chemistry will be considered.

The position will help to grow the School’s research capability in this strategic area of analytical and measurement science, and will enhance our research led training of undergraduates and postgraduates, providing vital skills for future research and development careers.

Appointment may be made on the Lectureship B/B Salary Scale: €34,748 - €61,370 (Scale B)/€36,658 - €58,397 (Scale A) Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
