Microsoft Quantum PhD Fellowship: Experimental Aspects of Statistics and Braiding in the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect, Center for Quantum Devices and Microsoft Quantum Lab - Copenhagen

The Center for Quantum Devices and Microsoft Quantum Lab - Copenhagen is planning to hire one or more PhD students in the area of experimental detection of anyonic statistics such as non-abelian fusion rules and braiding in fractional quantum Hall systems.

Related experiments can be seen in McClure, et al. PRL 108, 256804 (2012) and the theoretical basis for the proposed experiments can be found in Das Sarma, Freedman, and Nayak PRL 94, 166802 (2005), and Bonderson, Kitaev, and Shtengel, PRL 96 016803 (2006). Applicant should hold a master’s degree or a US undergraduate degree in Physics or Applied Physics with relevant experimental experience, ideally including published research. For students with an undergraduate degree, see HERE.

The project involves nanofabrication using electron-beam lithography and other cleanroom methods, cryogenics using a cryogen-free dilution refrigerator, low-noise measurement techniques, data analysis and programming, interaction with theoretical physicists, and scientific writing in English.
