Position: PhD Fellow – Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS)

Start Date: March 1, 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter)
Duration: 3 years, full-time
Funding: Novo Nordisk Foundation
Location: Frederiksberg Campus, University of Copenhagen, Denmark
Focus on BECCS as a tool to achieve net-negative greenhouse gas emissions in Europe.
Investigate carbon dynamics and climate mitigation potential of bioenergy systems and forests.
Examine ecosphere–technosphere interactions, land use, and carbon storage trade-offs.
Strong interdisciplinary background in ecology, forestry, and/or energy systems analysis.
Experience with systems thinking and modeling.
Understanding of carbon and greenhouse gas dynamics.
Quantitative modeling and data analysis skills required.
Python experience is a plus; willingness to learn and use Python is required.
Conduct independent research under supervision.
Participate in courses (~30 ECTS) and international research collaborations.
Contribute to teaching and knowledge dissemination.
Publish in high-impact journals and defend a PhD thesis.
