Doctoral student in the area of early-stage techno-economic assessment and optimization of (bio)chemical value chains

Job description

  • You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of Applied Engineering. The subject of the thesis is the optimization of techno-economic performance of (bio)chemical materials value chains in real-time, i.e. during ongoing early-stage research and development. Key challenges are the extrapolation of basic research findings to future process flow diagrams, and dealing with the associated high levels of uncertainty.
  • You contribute to teaching and research in the Department of (Bio)chemical Engineering (Faculty of Applied Engineering).

Profile and requirements

  • You hold a master degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioscience Engineering, Materials or Mechanical Engineering, (Bio)chemistry, Applied Economics, Business Engineering or equivalent.
  • You can submit outstanding academic results.
  • Also students in the final year of their degree can apply.
  • The focus in your teaching corresponds to the educational vision of the university.
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.
  • You have affinity with techno-economic assessments, prior knowledge on investment analysis is a plus. You are familiar with (bio)chemical (industrial) processes, have a working knowledge on mass and heat transfer, and have knowledge on statistics.
  • You have an interdisciplinary profile and are highly motivated to work together with researchers and companies in the field biobased materials, bridging a business and economics perspective to science and technology domains.

We offer

  • a doctoral scholarship for a period of one year, with the possibility of renewal for a further two-year period after positive evaluation;
  • the start date of scholarship will be at the earliest possibility.
  • a gross monthly grant ranging from € 2.447,20 tot € 2.549,36;
  • a dynamic and stimulating work environment.
