PhD position, Electrocatalysis and aspects of modern electrochemical surface science 

The Faculty of Applied Engineering is seeking to fill a full-time vacancy for aPhD position in the area of electrocatalysis and aspects of modern electrochemical surface scienceto strengthen the research team (ELCAT) applied electrochemistry & catalysis.The core research goal within ELCAT lies in the development of state-of-the art electrochemical reactors and catalysts, with a view towards large-scale industrial development in the field of industrial electrification, in a green and sustainable way. The scope is to improve controllability, flexibility and energy efficiency of the reactions through electrocatalyst development and reactor design.For more information about current projects, current doctoral projects and publications, please take a look at description
  • You are responsible for research support in chemical engineering, more particular in the field of electrochemistry.
  • You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of electrocatalysis and in this context you compete for externally funded research grants. As PhD student you also support the general research tasks to support the good day-to-day functioning of the research group.
  • You are also responsible for safety in the research labs, in particular with regard to chemicals.
  • You publish scientific articles related to the research project of the assignment.
  • If applicable, you will apply for an externally funded PhD scholarship.
Profile and requirements
  • You hold a master degree in industrial science: chemistry (industrial engineer), master of applied engineering: chemistry or materials science (civil engineering), master in Chemistry or equivalent through experience.
  • You can submit outstanding academic results.
  • Students in the final year of their degree can also apply.
  • Your teaching correspond to the educational vision of the university.
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.
  • You have a profound knowledge of English.
We offer
  • a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years, one time renewable after positive evaluation;
  • starting on 1 February 2020;
  • a gross monthly grant ranging from € 2.373,36 tot € 2.516,73;
