The professorship 'Nonequilibrium Chemical Physics' at the Physics Department has an opening for a PhD or Postdoctoral position for 'Operando Spectroscopic Investigations of Electrochemical Interfaces'. About us: One core area of the research group is energy conversion at the solid-liquid interface. We combine nanofabrication methods, state-of-the-art spectroscopic techniques and modeling to advance our understanding of physical and physicochemical properties of electrochemical interfaces relevant for applications in electrochemical energy conversion. Your task: The project is part of the Cluster of Excellence ‘e-conversion’ and is carried out in close collaboration with the Hybrid Nanosystems group at LMU. Its objective is to establish a combined nanophotonic / electrochemical platform with increased sensitivity for surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS) and to utilize the platform together with further electrochemical and advanced spectroscopic techniques to uncover the mechanism of CO2 reduction on highly reactive nanostructured electrodes. Our requirements: Excellent candidates should hold a M.Sc. in physics, physical chemistry or related disciplines, have strong experimental interest and practical experience in at least one of the following fields: IR spectroscopy, electrochemistry or nanofabrication techniques. Knowledge of Python or Labview Software is desirable. Good communication skills (spoken and written) for work in an international and interdisciplinary team as well as the ability to work independently are required.
