We are looking for

We are looking for an ambitious PhD student with a great interest in quantitative microbiological risk assessment, and who has affinity with behaviour of foodborne pathogens.

This project, funded by the EU, aims to enhance the identification and assessment of microbiological safety risks along the European infant food chain. The subproject will develop decision support systems for hazard identification and risk ranking. For that, databases will be built for potential microbiological hazards and risk estimates using epidemiological data, scientific literature and genomic data, and selection procedures will be developed for hazard identification and risk ranking. This subproject is linked to other subprojects within the same program that are developing decision support systems for chemical hazards and the subprojects will closely collaborate.

We ask

We are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic team player and motivated scientist with:

  • An excellent academic (MSc) record in (food) microbiology; 
  • affinity with quantitative microbiology and experience is considered an advantage;
  • creative researcher, being independent yet at the same time being a team player;
  • excellent oral and written communication skills in English; 
  • willingness to be involved in teaching activities. 

We offer

We offer you a position in The Laboratory of Food Microbiology which consists of a dynamic international group of food microbiologists; state of the art infrastructure to conduct your research; close national and international collaboration with other researchers, and last but not least, an excellent program to further develop your scientific education leading to a PhD degree, which include dedicated courses, training as well as conferences.

We offer you a temporary position for a period of 1.5 years with extension of 2.5 years after a successful Go-No Go evaluation. Gross salary per month € 2.395,- in the first year rising up to € 3.061,- per month in the fourth year.  

In addition, we offer:
