PhD Position in imaging of Neuronal Architecture

Catholic University of Leuven

The Lab for Nanobiology is a relatively young but dynamic group. We offer an interdisciplinary environment including research at the doctoral and postdoctoral level, with backgrounds in (bio-) chemistry, physics, and engineering. Located at the Department of Chemistry at the KU Leuven, the lab possesses and has access to extensive imaging instruments, molecular biology facilities, and cell culturing facilities. The lab is well-supported by external funding sources.

The Lab for Nanobiology at the KU Leuven, headed by Peter Dedecker, is looking for a motivated PhD or postdoc that will develop an optical instrument for the visualization of neuronal organization and structure within brain slices with very high spatial resolution. As part of this project, you will be expected to construct and operate a novel microscope system, including both hardware and software, and to apply it to the visualization of brain slices.

This project will be performed as part of the SENSEI project which is a partnering project of the Human Brain Project, and will involve collaboration and exchanges with the teams of Nicola Vanello at the University of Pisa and Lydia Danglot at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neuroscience of Paris.

We will consider applicants from a broad range of backgrounds, but an interest in instrumentation and/or data analysis and a solid scientific background is required.

A PhD or postdoc position within our research group.
