Legal Protection of Religion(s) in Cyberspace: PhD Position University Research Priority Program "Digital Religion(s)"

Within the larger framework of the University Research Priority Program (URPP), our project will analyze the legal protection of faith in cyberspace, addressing both substantial aspects (such as the issue of hate speech) and jurisdictional challenges.

Your responsibilities

We seek an outstanding PhD researcher with an interest in law and religion to join the team of the interdisciplinary project "Digital Religion(s)". This University Research Priority Program (URPP) investigates the practices, challenges, risks and opportunities of "Digital Religion(s)" in today's globally networked society. For the first time in a Swiss and European context, the dynamics of digital religious communication, interaction and transformation with regard to their legal and ethical contexts will be explored, with innovative empirical and theoretical approaches and an emphasis on interdisciplinary as well as international collaboration.

The project offers unique opportunities for inter-disciplinary approaches and empirical as well as qualitative methods.

Your profile

Applicants must hold an excellent Master's or equivalent degree diploma which qualifies them for pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Zurich. The successful candidate is expected (a) to complete and submit a PhD thesis at the Law Faculty in Zurich within four years, (b) to contribute to the overall URPP research project as well as to our specific project, including (c) the organization of workshops and publication of contributions in scholarly journals.
