Purdue University Global offers term-by-term, non-tenured teaching appointments to qualified individuals who are dedicated to providing quality educational experiences to students in Associate’s, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degree programs. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals to work in a professional learning community where faculty contribute to and engage in instructional best practices for adult learners in an innovative, nontraditional university setting.
Adjunct faculty have part-time teaching roles and may teach up to three courses per term, not to exceed ten courses per year. This role includes participation in continuing professional development and may involve faculty governance and curriculum work as needed. Additional service activities may be assigned. Scholarship is not required.
Teaching assignments may fluctuate and are contingent upon course scheduling. Adjunct faculty are expected to deliver high-quality instruction and foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment conducive to student success.
Provide a student-centered learning environment that enables student success
Teach synchronous or asynchronous seminars (10-week units) as assigned
Maintain school-determined virtual office hours per week for each class
Ensure timely management of and response to electronic correspondence
Lead message board discussions and engage students in coursework
Partner with Academic Advisors to address student concerns
Refer students with potential ADA accommodation needs to Student Accessibility Services (SAS) and comply with all accommodations communicated by SAS
Maintain and submit accurate and timely student grade and progress reports
Deliver mid-term and final grades in accordance with the academic calendar
Enforce student conduct policies as outlined in the University Catalog
Attend University, departmental, and faculty meetings as requested
Remain current with relevant trends, instructional techniques, and educational technologies
Perform additional duties as assigned by the School
Master’s degree (or PhD) in Chemistry, Physics, or Biology
1–3 years of related practical/professional experience and/or training
Online higher education teaching experience preferred
Exceptional computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and Zoom
Experience with Brightspace education software preferred
Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Dedication to student success and the ability to engage and inspire students
Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Strong relationship-building skills across teams, departments, and Schools
Adjunct compensation varies per course based on enrollment and program type
Typical compensation: $2,800 per full 10-week course (School of General Education)
