PhD Position in Quantum Biology and Computational Physics

Carl Von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg

Germany

The Quantum Biology and Computational Physics Group (Department of Physics) at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg offers one

PhD-position (m/f/d)
(TV-L E13 / 65 %)

for 3 years.

Our group is located at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, and is part of several collaborative centres of excellence including the Research Training Group (RTG) “Molecular Basis of Sensory Biology” and SFB 1372 “Magnetoreception and navigation in vertebrates: from biophysics to brain and behaviour”. These collaborations will give you access to a very wide range of superb modern equipment, techniques and expertise. You will become part of a larger team working closely together on related questions. For more information about our group, see http://www.quantbiolab.com.

The overall goal of this research project is to advance computational modelling techniques such as the molecular dynamics (MD) or free energy perturbation approaches to permit computational studies of biological macromolecules and molecular assemblies that are central to the molecular basis of many sensory processes (including magnetoreception, vision and hearing). The visualization of the scientific results is a major part of the project.

Requirement for employment is that the applicant should have a qualifying university degree (diploma or master) in Physics, Chemistry or related fields and a strong interest in biophysics and basic research in a collaborative research environment. We require excellent mastering of English reading and writing. The candidate must have a profund background in programming such as Python and GPU-programming as well as experience using supercomputing ressources. Advanced expertise in visualization, classical molecular dynamics simulations and a solid understanding in electronic structure calculations is considered advantageous.

The University of Oldenburg is dedicated to increasing the percentage of female employees in the field of science. Therefore, female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. In accordance with Lower Saxony regulations (§ 21 Section 3 NHG) female candidates with equal qualifications will be preferentially considered. Applicants with disabilities will be given preference in case of equal qualification.

Please send your application (including CV, letter of motivation, list of publications, university and high school certificates, names and phone numbers of at least two personal references) preferred as a single pdf file to .

All applications received before the 2nd of July 2021 will be considered.
