PhD Position in the Department of Developmental Biology

Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg

The Tasks Include:

Our group investigates regulatory mechanisms of cardiogenesis and myogenesis in the model organismDrosophila . By investigating this model, we want to find out how certain signaling pathways and transcriptional regulators are interconnected to convert multipotent precursors into specialized cells with characteristic identities and functions. EGF-dependent receptor tyrosine kinase signaling and modulation of the ETS family transcriptional activator Pointed as key players in the gene-regulatory network controlling cardioblast diversification (Schwarz et al. , 2018, eLife7, doi: 10.7554 / eLife.32847). In this DFG-funded project, we hope to find out more about this question: What is the exact timing and direction of signaling events in the cardiogenic mesoderm and how are the differential activities in cardiac progenitors generated and conveyed? To answer these questions the candidate wants to apply a variety of modern genetic and molecular methods in combination with state of the art imaging approaches.

Necessary Qualification:

The highly motivated candidate should have a university degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of biology / life sciences, experience in basic molecular techniques as well as interest in gene regulation and live imaging.

Desirable Qualification:

A background in developmental biology, Drosophila research (or work with other insect models) or confocal imaging is an advantage.

Applications including a letter stating your motivation, a brief summary of previous research experience, CV, Masters certificate (or equivalent) and contact information for two referees should be sent as single PDF document to:
