PhD Position in Translational Optogenetics

We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate in the context of a lead agency grant to join the "next-generation optogenetics" consortium. The project aims at discovering and engineering novel optogenetic tools to accelerate deep tissue and clinical optogenetics. Besides molecular engineering and database searches, the candidate will gene therapeutically deliver the novel optogenetic tools in vivo to ameliorate pathologies and restore function. Functional restoration will be determined by behavioral assays, optionally in combination with electrophysiology.

The ideal candidate:

  • has keen interest and experience in the handling of mice, ideally in behavioral paradigms
  • is in the possession of an animal welfare certificate for the handling of mice
  • has experience in molecular cloning
  • should possess programming and analysis skills.

The position is offered for a period of three years and can be extended. The preferred starting date is before June 2020. Salary scale is provided by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
