Neuroscience Center in the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HILIFE) is an independent research organization. Research in Neuroscience Center spans scales from molecular and cellular neuroscience to developmental, cognitive, and systems neuroscience.
The research group of William Hennah investigates neuropsychiatric disorders using multiple levels of traits and biological measures to translate our understanding of these illnesses. Aiming to use alternative phenotypes of psychological, pharmacological, and biological origin to gain insight into the mechanisms and implications of genetic risk.

PhD Researcher in Pediatric Neuropsychiatric Genetics

The PhD researcher will participate in Academy of Finland funded project “Genetic Testing in Pediatric Neuropsychiatric Disorders”. The primary role of the researcher involves the analysis of whole genome sequencing data to identify mutations of clinical interest, with a secondary role being to assist in the collection and processing of samples, and analysis of additional omic level information.

The position is available for 2 years starting in early 2021, and will include opportunities for collaborations through lab visits abroad. The position of PhD Student imply that the Candidate successfully enrolls to one of the Doctoral Programmes at University of Helsinki.

Applicants should possess an MSc or equivalent degree in a relevant field (human genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or something similar). The candidate should be fluent in English, with excellent oral and written communication skills, while knowledge of the Finnish language is beneficial, but not required.

The salary of the successful candidate will be determined by the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system for Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. A six-month trial period will be applied.
