The Opportunity
Monash Education is offering 2 PhD scholarships to applicants interested in undertaking research in early childhood education. Successful applicants will help conduct research activities for the Conceptual PlayLab research project – a five–year (2019 – 2024) government-funded project led by Laureate Professor Marilyn Fleer.
It is supported by a five-year $3.2 million Laureate Fellowship from the Australian Research Council.
About the research
The Conceptual PlayLab is Australia's first programmatic study that aims to test ground-breaking play-based models of teaching science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to young children. Over the life of the project, you will be following the experience of more than 100 young children. You will look at how and why the children form concepts of STEM, and the ways Conceptual PlayWorlds helps them. Working with early childhood educators, you will collect insights, experiences and track concept development.
It aims to create significant shifts in the ways STEM concepts are taught to young children in Australia, and around the world.
You can find out more about the research here.
