PhD Project – Development of novel photochromic dye-polymer conjugates

This is an opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled individual (must be an Australian citizen) to undertake a PhD in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Monash University, to develop novel photochromic dyes that can be conjugated to polymers and then incorporate them into a variety of host materials. The successful applicant will be supervised by Prof Neil Cameron (Monash) and Prof Richard Evans (CSIRO), who are both located on the Clayton Research Precinct. The project is a partnership between Monash, CSIRO and Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), and is available to start from 1st August 2022.

A strong background in materials science/engineering and/or polymer/organic chemistry is essential. Applicants must also show excellent communication and inter-personal skills, and the ability to conduct self-motivated research. They should have a Bachelors or Masters Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area, together with experience of a significant research project and a record, where appropriate, of publishing their research in mainstream scientific journals.

Note: applicants who already hold a PhD will not be considered.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, over Skype if necessary. The interviews will be conducted in English.
