The PhD candidate will work on topics in statistics related to the study of dependencies, (copula-based) risk measures, flexible (regression) models and statistical inference methods for contemporary data. The research within the Statistics and Risk section of the Department of Mathematics covers a wide range of areas, dealing with various challenging research questions. Apart from the development of new methods, and contributions to statistical theory, the development of open source software facilitates wide application of research results.

The research will be conducted within the research group on mathematical statistics (with particular expertise in semiparametric and nonparametric statistical inference).
The research is part of a broader research program, with promoters Irène Gijbels (Faculty of Science) and Gerda Claeskens (Faculty of Economics and Business), and the PhD candidate will be part of the larger group of researchers working in this project.
