PhD within Project in Effectiveness of Endometrial Cancer Treatment

Catholic University of Leuven Kulak

Cancer of the uterus body is the most common gynecological cancer with approximately 1450 new diagnoses in Belgium every year. In order to gain insight into the way in which uterine cancer is treated in Belgium and to strive for more uniformity in treatments, the EFFECT (EFFectiveness of Endometrial Cancer Treatment) project was started. In addition to the standard patient and tumor characteristics, additional variables are registered for EFFECT that relate to diagnostics, neo-adjuvant treatments, surgery, lymphadenectomy, anatomopathology, adjuvant treatments, disease-free interval and follow-up data.

EFFECT is an initiative of The Anticancer Fund and the representatives of the Belgian Gynecologists (Gemented Obstetrics Group - GGOLFB and the Flemish Association for Obstetrics and Gynecology - VVOG) in collaboration with the Cancer Register Foundation.

The research project is entitled 'Evaluation of the quality of care of endometrial cancer in Belgium - EFFectiveness of Endometrial Cancer Treatment (EFFECT) project', and is funded by Kom op tegen Kanker. The aim of the project is to determine whether measuring the quality of care also improves the overall quality for all patients and whether there is a difference in outcome between hospitals that treat a large number of patients each year and hospitals with a smaller number of patients.
