The College of Engineering and Technology invites applications for position of Post Doctoral Researcher - Synthesis and Manufacture of Materials with emphasis on material formulation, deposition and characterization of nanomaterials, including composite materials, nanoparticles, thin films, and nanofibers. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing our understanding of nanomaterials and their fabrication for applications in various fields.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments for the synthesis of nanomaterials, with a focus on composite materials, nanoparticles, thin films, and nanofibers.
  • Manufacture synthesized materials using various deposition skills including material extrusion, spray coating and material jetting to fabricate patterned structures.
  • Characterize synthesized materials and fabricated structures using advanced techniques such as spectroscopy, microscopy, and other analytical tools.
  • Contribute to the development of novel nanomaterials with improved properties and functionalities.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate nanomaterials into practical applications.
  • Setup and operate a additive and subtractive manufacturing equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters for various metal and polymeric materials.
  • Demonstrate competency in CAD modelling using various design and manufacture tools.
  • Operate and maintain specialized material analysis equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable data collection.
  • Analyze and interpret research data, providing valuable insights to the team.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of research papers and grant proposal writing, as well as contributing to technical reports and documentation.
  • Demonstrate awareness of cutting-edge advancements in the field, ensuring the use of state-of-the-art methodologies and technologies.
  • Maintain a well-organized and safe laboratory environment, adhering to research protocols and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science and/or materials manufacturing, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong background in nanomaterials synthesis and characterization.
  • Prior experience in operating digital manufacturing and materials processing equipment such as, 3D printers, laser cutters and robotic arms is highly desirable.
  • Experience with composite materials, nanoparticles, thin films, and nanofibers is highly desirable.
  • Research experience related to materials for electromagnetic wave shielding applications is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in using advanced characterization techniques and instruments.
  • Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
