Summary of Duties

The Department of Psychology, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. The Post Doctoral Scholar will join a team working on a large scale, longitudinal adolescent neuroimaging project that is a collaboration between Baldwin Way (Social and Health Psychology), Dylan Wagner (Social Neuroscience), Christopher Browning (Sociology), Jodi Ford (Nursing) and Deliang Wang (Computer Science and Engineering). The project is funded by NIDA, NSF, and NINR and examines the influence of geospatial (e.g. GPS), social network, and neighborhood factors upon psychological and neural mechanisms (reward, threat, executive function) that influence risk behaviors. In addition to longitudinal data on neural structure and function, the project also has a strong focus on stress biomarkers with inflammatory markers in blood, Epstein-Barr Virus titers, hair cortisol, telomere length, and epigenetic markers already assayed. The Post Doctoral Scholar analyzes behavioral, biological, and neuroimaging data (fMRI) using programming skills and standard statistical techniques as well as techniques such as multi-level modeling (MLM) and machine learning; prepares research for publication and presentation; prepares and delivers conference presentations for dissemination of acquired research knowledge; assists in writing grant applications; assists with collecting behavioral, biological, and neuroimaging data using functional magnetic resonance imaging. Salary will be commensurate with experience according to NIH guidelines. The position is available for one year with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Psychology or related field; proficiency in programming (e.g. Python); experience with functional magnetic resonance training (fMRI); Neuroimaging experience; training and expertise in analytical approaches (e.g. MLM, machine learning algorithms such as deep neural networks); knowledge of health-relevant psychology and physiology.

Target Salary $52,704.00 - $55,596.00 Annually
