Position description

We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Scholar that will work in veterinary epidemiology, biosecurity and animal health issues in alternative agricultural system in the laboratory of Dr. Alda Pires, Department of Population and Health and Reproduction at the University of California, Davis. The job holder will be part of an inter-disciplinary, multi-state, team of epidemiologists, veterinary clinicians, researchers and extension specialists that conducts applied research, development quantitative methods to improve animal health and surveillance programs, implementation of outreach programs and transactional science in national and international projects.

The job holder will be based at UC Davis (California) and will work with, epidemiologists, field veterinarians, animal scientists, other scientists and policy makers on a wide range of issues related to infectious diseases and biosecurity affecting alternative agricultural systems in a multi-regional project in collaboration with the Center for Animal Disease Modeling and Surveillance (CADMS), University of California, Washington State University and Colorado University State, stakeholders and industry collaborators. The job holder will work on a USDA funded project on systematic reviews, capacity building, on-farm biosecurity programs, development and implementation of outreach tools for diverse livestock production systems. Additional project opportunities include foodborne pathogens risk analysis, quantitative risk assessments and infectious diseases modeling. Other activities include the mentoring of undergraduate students and graduate scholars and participation in teaching and outreach activities.
