Postdoc in Microfluidic Approaches to Bioprinting

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 2-year position. You will work with microfluidic systems in the context of bioprinting to create 3D cell and tissue models for fundamental biophysical and pharmaceutical studies. Our research

Research related to this position will be performed in the Microscale Analytical Systems Group (group leader: Prof. Jörg P. Kutter). The Microscale Analytical Systems Group is internationally recognized in research on microfluidic systems with a focus on chemical-analytical separations and sample preparation approaches. We also have strong collaborative efforts for application of microfluidic approaches in pharmaceutical and life sciences problems.

Your job

The research positions focus is located at the intersection of microfluidics with advanced bioengineering and biophysics. The position has an emphasis on utilizing microfluidic principles to develop 3D-bioprinted tissue models for skin and making them available for fundamental and applied studies. The project is of a highly cross-disciplinary nature involving four dynamic research groups (at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and the University of Copenhagen (UCPH)) under the common leadership of Prof. Jonathan Brewer from SDU. Strong ties and interactions with all involved research groups is considered a pre-requisite for realizing viable and functional bioprinted skin models.


We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following experience and competencies:
Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in nanotechnology, biophysics, analytical chemistry or related fields
  • You are highly experienced in microfluidic device design and fabrication using polymer materials
  • You have an active interest in application of microfluidic approaches for life sciences
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills, both written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience/knowledge in bioprinting or tissue engineering
  • Experience/knowledge in various cell-based protocols

Place of Employment

The place of employment is at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories for microfluidics research and cell experiments.

Terms of employment

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years. The start date is 1 April 2022 or after agreement.
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 36,800 DKK/approx. 4,940 EUR (October 2021 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The further process
