Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

A 2-year postdoc position is available in the group of associate professor Osman Mirza at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen.

The Mirza group works on structure-function studies of secondary active nutrient and drug transporters and recently also proteins that interact with these transporters. Basigin also referred to as CD147 or Extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN), is a type-1 membrane protein that interacts with many different macromolecules and is involved in several diseases such as cancer and malaria. Our focus is on understanding the structure of full-length human Basigin and its interactions with transport proteins. The postdoctoral fellow will drive the project, which will involve in vitro protein:protein interaction studies and structure elucidation using cryoEM, participate in the education and guidance of students, and write scientific publications.

Our group is part of the Protein and Peptides discipline at the department and has access to state-of-the art facilities for expression, purification and characterization of proteins. CryoEM studies will be performed in collaboration with collaborators at the iNANO (Aarhus University).
