Postdoc in Sustainable Digitalization and Green IT

Department of People and Technology, Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as postdoc of Sustainable Digitalization and Green IT from August 1st 2021  or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as postdoc is limited to a period of 17 months.

The post.doc.-position is closely connected to a project;

  1. Project Intelligrid (in collaboration with partners in Denmark and Germany). The purpose of the project is to design something that makes Danish and German households consume electric energy in a more sustainable way. In short the Intelligrid design currently consist of three parts: (1) An Internet of Things (IoT) plug, (2) A central controller unit, and (3) An App for a smartphone. In a household, one or more  plug(s) can be installed on electricity consuming appliances. The post doc will be the main responsible for the field test the Intelligrid design starting in October 2021.

The project is designed as collaborative projects that tightly connects research and practice development and therefore involve close collaboration with private households and external partners in the project. The project is financed by the European Union’s Interreg funding and it runs from 2020 to end of 2022. The project is headed by Professor Jan Pries-Heje. The position is based in the research area in Sustainable Digitalization, which is one of the main focus areas of the department.

The research will be grounded in the research areas of Information Systems and Design Science Research with an interdisciplinary link to behavioral economics and nudging.

Responsibilities and tasks

The postdoc’s work will include 17 months research in how to change behavior focusing on what actually causes change in households. There will be amble opportunity to publish both alone and with colleagues in the projekct. You will be closely involved in all stages of the research process; design, state-of-the-art, theoretical discussions and outline of key-concepts and approach, field work and production of empirical material, coding, analysis and writing up results in accordance with the projects’ publication plans.


Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent within information systems, human-computer interaction and/or design science research. Qualifications within the following scientific areas are preferred:

  • Qualitative methods
  • Ethnographic work

The ideal candidate is a skilled academic writer, who possess good qualitative research skills and can document international publication in journals relevant to the research fields listed above, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.


In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to;

  • scientific production and research prospective,
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results,
  • experience in teaching and education,
  • ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation,

Terms of employment

The employment is 37 hours per week and you will refer to Dean Andreas de Neergaard.

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.

Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.
