Postdoc Position in Protein Phosphatase PP1 In Health and Disease

Catholic University of Leuven

The Laboratory of Biosignaling & Therapeutics investigates cellular signal transduction pathways at the molecular level. A major current goal is to explore protein phosphatase PP1 as a target for the development of novel cancer and neurodegeneration therapies.

Protein phosphatase-1 (PP1) is essential for eukaryotic life and catalyzes a substantial fraction of all protein dephosphorylation events.

  • You will investigate the deregulation of PP1, which contributes to the development of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • You will explore how PP1 is regulated by post-translational modifications and association with regulatory proteins, using recently acquired degron- and knockin-cell lines.
  • You will  subsequently use these data to unravel how PP1 misregulation contributes to tumor initiation and progression.

  • PhD degree (max 5 years) in (Bio)medical Sciences, Bioengineering, or equivalent.
  • Creative skills and eager to learn.
  • A focused and perseverant mind, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ambitious, with a clear goal for the future.
  • Good time and project management skills.
  • Proficient in English, both written and orally.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Excellent team player.

  • A full-time appointment (100%) as a postdoc for a period of up to 3 years.
  • Affiliation to a world-renowned university (founded in 1425).
  • Access to state-of-the-art equipment, with excellent networking opportunities.
  • The possibility to participate and present your research at (inter)national conferences.
  • Active support for the further development of an independent academic career.
