CALS seeks a Postdoctoral Associate with expertise in fisheries, hydroacoustics, and aquatic ecology to join an interdisciplinary research team investigating fish and invertebrate populations in the Laurentian Great Lakes using active acoustics (sonar) and uncrewed drone systems. The postdoctoral appointee will contribute to advancing hydroacoustic monitoring and spatial analysis in collaboration with Cornell and USGS scientists.
Analyze acoustic survey data using software such as Echoview, R, and Python.
Collaborate with USGS scientists on field data collection in the Great Lakes.
Investigate spatial patterns of fish and invertebrates using advanced computational methods.
Present research findings at scientific conferences and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
Anticipated Time Allocation:
40% – Acoustic data analysis
20% – Field collaboration with USGS
20% – Spatial pattern analysis
20% – Dissemination (publications, presentations)
Required:
Ph.D. in fisheries, ecology, marine biology, bioinformatics, limnology, or related field.
Strong quantitative and computational skills; ability to handle large datasets.
Proficiency in R, Python, and experience scripting for Echoview.
Interest in fisheries acoustics, aquatic ecology, and spatial ecology.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred:
Experience with hydroacoustics surveys and uncrewed systems for environmental monitoring.
Supervision: None expected.
