Postdoctoral Associate or Research Scientist – Tobacco Regulatory Science
Department: Anesthesiology
The Jordt lab in the Department of Anesthesiology at Duke University School of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate or Research Scientist to lead projects in the emerging field of Tobacco Regulatory Science funded by NIH/FDA. Tobacco Regulatory Science is a developing field generating research evidence to support regulatory measures and policies by the FDA targeting tobacco products. The Jordt lab has pioneered a unique approach combining expertise in sensory neurobiology, addiction, respiratory physiology, behavioral analysis, genetic models, chemistry and toxicology to examine the effects of flavor additives in electronic cigarettes and other tobacco products on nicotine use initiation and health. This approach has direct impact on tobacco product regulation, both in the US and internationally. Essential publications are available here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/myncbi/1XgVxedsk1M/collections/64390199/public/
Current projects focus on the behavioral and toxicological effects of synthetic flavor chemicals and novel nicotine analogues in new tobacco products. Depending on projects and preferences, methods will include video- and machine-learning supported behavioral studies in mice, mouse genetics, fluorescent imaging, electrophysiology, pharmacological studies of irritant and thermosensory receptors, analysis of ventilatory physiology, pulmonary inflammation, toxicological studies on stem-cell derived pulmonary organoids, primary and permanent cell lines and receptor-deficient mouse strains.
As part of one of one of NIDA/FDA’s Tobacco Centers of Regulatory Science (TCORS) the Jordt lab provides a) strong mentoring and career resources in tobacco regulatory science, b) opportunities to network with scientists at the FDA and NIH at Tobacco Regulatory Science meetings and c) opportunity to apply for pilot funding, d) strong collaborations with scientists at other TCORS sites.
Requirements
