Department/Area Computer Science and Electrical Engineering

Position Description

The Harvard Architecture, Circuits, and Compilers Group invites applications for an immediate opening in the areas of computer architecture, computing systems, and VLSI circuits. The group carries out broad interdisciplinary research across multiple layers of the computing system stack including but not limited to: investigation of novel device and memory technologies that drive innovative circuit topologies and architectures; algorithm-hardware co-design of specialized accelerators; strategies for large-scale computing that target modern problems related to machine learning training and inference (e.g., recommendation systems); benchmark development and characterization of emerging domains of computing (from tiny embedded devices to AR/VR/XR); understanding, modeling, and exploiting resilience across the computing stack; compilers and runtime systems for diverse scales of autonomy; design space exploration and design automation leveraging machine learning (e.g., Bayesian optimization, reinforcement learning); and exploring privacy preservation from algorithms to circuits. The group strives to take a holistic view of research and seeks out synergistic opportunities that often lie in between conventional layers of the computing stack. The candidate will be expected to contribute to brainstorming new avenues of inquiry and writing research proposals for submission to SRC, NSF, DARPA, and other governmental/industry organizations.

The candidate should have a strong interest in contributing to multidisciplinary teams and will be expected to publish scholarly papers, attend international conferences, and participate in funding review meetings, as well as take on a mentorship role for undergraduate and graduate students.

Basic Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Computation or related fields.

Additional Qualifications

A strong background in computer programming, mathematics, computer-aided design, circuit design, electronic instrumentation/experimentation, and/or substrate/PCB design and assembly, depending on area of expertise, are highly valued.

Special Instructions

Application materials shall include an updated CV, a cover letter describing research interests and goals, a full list of publications, and one scientific paper most representative of applicant’s research accomplishment. Please submit the names and contact information for up to three references.

SEAS is dedicated to building a diverse and welcoming community, and we strongly encourage applications from historically underrepresented groups.
