Subject Description

Postdoctoral position in computer science with a focus on "Parallel and Stream Processing": compilers, tools and programming languages. The subject area includes programming languages, tools and methods for implementing concurrent programs that deal primarily with streaming data on parallel computing platforms, including multicores, processor arrays, programmable logic units, and systems consisting of combinations thereof, as well as distributed systems. In addition to implementation tools, this also includes tools for analysis, profiling, troubleshooting and refactorisation, work with relevant applications and libraries, and development methods.

This is applied to develop solutions in areas such as machine learning, Internet-of-Things, video coding and processing, signal and media processing, cryptography and embedded systems. 

The main tasks of a post-doctoral position are research. The teaching can also be included, but up to a maximum of 20% of the working hours. The service provides the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education and learning. 

Research in the subject area includes conceptualisation of research efforts, implementation, publication of results and supervision of bachelor's degree and master's degree in related projects. In addition, the person is expected to apply for external funding, to cooperate with the industry and external researchers, and to work with administration related to these tasks. 


To be employed as a postdoctoral fellow is the one who has completed a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree that is deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree, within the subject area of the employment and which has been submitted no more than three years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, a doctorate may have been submitted earlier. 

Other requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Publications in related subject areas.
  • Excellent programming ability.
  • Demonstrated excellent software development. Our primary development language is Java, target languages include C / C ++, Java and Verilog / VHDL.
  • Experience of parallel processing (processor arrays, GPUs) and with FPGA units is a merit.

Basis of Assessment

This is a qualifying appointment focused primarily on research. The position is intended as an initial step in the career and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merit and potential as a researcher. Particular importance will be attached to scientific ability in the subject area. 

When hiring a postdoctoral fellow, the following shall form the basis for assessment:

  • Good ability to develop and implement good quality research.
  • Educational ability.

Consideration will also be given to good cooperation ability, drive and independence, and how the applicant, through his / her experience and competence, is considered to supplement and strengthen ongoing research within the institution and contribute to its future development. 

Employment Conditions
The employment is limited to a maximum of 2 years and refers to full-time employment. The employment is limited in time according to the agreement, "Contract for fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral fellow", between the social partners dated 4/9/2008 (Employers' employer, OFR's, Saco-S and SEKO).
