Title | Postdoctoral Fellow in Aerospace Engineering |
---|---|
School | Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences |
Department/Area | Environmental Science and Engineering |
Position Description |
A postdoctoral position is available at Harvard to work on MethaneSAT
(https://www.methanesat.org; launch Q1 2024) in the near term. The research involves developing scientific and operational code for satellite data analysis. The MethaneSAT work is to participate in the development of retrievals in the shortwave infrared for CH4 and other gases worldwide, and in the inversion of abundance determinations to obtain source strengths. It will include participation in airborne measurements by MethaneSAT’s testbed instrument MethaneAIR, used to develop the XCH4 algorithm for MethaneSAT before its launch. The research involves improving atmospheric spectral fitting, spatial inversions, radiative transfer modeling, instrument calibration, airborne measurements and validation of measurements. |
Basic Qualifications |
Ph.D. in aerospace engineering, atmospheric science, meteorology, physics or a related field required
|
Additional Qualifications |
We also seek candidates with a strong background in remote sensing of atmospheric trace gases, spectroscopy, and radiative transfer modeling. Training in aerospace engineering is highly desired.
Strong programming skills (e.g., Fortran, Python, R) and shell scripting under Unix/Linux environments, and extensive plotting and mapping capabilities are crucial for this position. Strong communication skills and a good track record of writing scientific papers will also be helpful. |
Special Instructions |
Please submit a current CV with publications listed, as well as a minimum of two reference letters.
SEAS is dedicated to building a diverse and welcoming community, and we strongly encourage applications from historically underrepresented groups. |
