Overview

The Mathematics in Computation Section at ORNL invites applications for the Alston S. Householder Fellowship, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research. This prestigious postdoctoral fellowship recognizes outstanding scholars in computational and applied mathematics and provides an opportunity to conduct high-impact, independent research.

The fellowship aims to honor Dr. Alston S. Householder, a pioneer in numerical analysis and former leader of ORNL’s Mathematics Division (now CSMD).

Candidates with expertise in one or more of the following domains are encouraged to apply:

Eligibility Criteria

Required:

  • Ph.D. in applied/computational mathematics, computer science, statistics, physics, engineering, etc.

  • Ph.D. conferred between January 1, 2023 and August 2026.

  • Research proposal with clear mathematical and computational relevance.

  • No more than one prior postdoctoral appointment.

Preferred:

  • Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Scientific computing and software development skills (e.g., C++, Python, MATLAB).

  • Professional experience in national labs, industry, or research programs.

  • Ability to obtain a national security clearance.
