This position is part of the Post Doctoral Fellows Association and has an initial appointment of 1 year, with the possibility of extension. The salary is $60,000 to $70,000, depending on experience, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
Location: Hybrid role with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus, Edmonton.

The Department of Physical Therapy in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine is accepting applications for a postdoctoral position in learning health systems (LHS), supervised by Dr. Erin McCabe.
Dr. McCabe is an Assistant Professor focused on:
Partnering with community organizations to improve health outcomes
Health systems and policy research
Improving access to evidence-based rehabilitation interventions
Amplifying the patient voice in the health system
Research interests include learning health systems, implementation science, patient engagement, and co-design approaches.
Learning Health Systems (LHS):
Organizes health systems for continuous improvement and innovation
Leverages heterogeneous data from routine clinical practice to analyze recovery patterns
Rapidly translates knowledge into clinical practice
Purpose:
Co-design, implement, and evaluate a patient-centred, clinically feasible outcome measurement framework for rehabilitation of stroke, spinal cord injury, or traumatic brain injury patients
Integration of standardized patient outcomes across care pathways is currently limited
The Postdoctoral Fellow will:
Lead a provincial-scale co-design project involving patients, family members, clinicians, administrators, clinical data & analytics, and national experts
Achieve consensus on a set of patient-centred outcome measures to implement across Alberta
Participate in community-engaged outcome measure implementation projects in child and adolescent mental health
Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and research assistants
Publish findings and present at conferences and health system events
Funding:
One-year position with potential extension by 1-2 years
Possibility to convert into a PhD opportunity for a highly qualified candidate
Plan and execute co-design consensus processes in collaboration with PIs and patient partners
Conduct interviews and focus groups
Coordinate patient advisory councils under mentorship
Develop relationships with key stakeholders
Support co-design and implementation projects in child and adolescent mental health
Mentor students and research assistants
Publish findings and present at conferences
PhD in any health or sociology-related discipline
Expertise in outcome measurement, patient engagement in research, implementation science, or neurorehabilitation research
Training/experience with clinical or patient-reported outcome measures
Experience in qualitative and quantitative research
Interest or training in implementation science
Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
Strong academic record with emerging publication history
Adaptable, resilient, and growth-oriented
Knowledge of Alberta’s healthcare system
Clinical experience in rehabilitation (OT, speech, PT)
