The Department of Physics is one of Lund University's largest institutions with approximately 350 employees. At the department there are seven research departments and a number of major centers. The research at the department covers a wide range of modern physics.

The postdoctoral service is linked to the Department of Solid State Physics, where extensive research is conducted centered on various aspects of semiconductor physics, ranging from material science to quantum physics to different applications. The department also leads NanoLund, Lund University's major interdisciplinary research center on nanoscience and nanotechnology. Lund Nano Lab is a central and common facility for producing materials and components on the nanoscale. The department also has a strong commitment to undergraduate education, not least in the Master of Science program "Technical Nanoscience" at LTH.

For the past fifteen years, our research on advanced production of one-dimensional structures (nanowires) has been in the international front line. We want to expand our research into high resolution lithography, which is one of the most important technologies for the fabrication of nanowire structures. Both nanoimprints and so-called block-copolymer lithography for nanowires and other applications should be developed and studied. For more information, see: and

Special Subject Description: The service relates to nano-processing with a focus on high-resolution lithography techniques, among other things. nanoimprint and block copolymer technologies.

Tasks: The tasks of the postdoctoral fellow include mainly research. Teaching can be included in the tasks, however, no more than one fifth of the working hours. Within the framework of the employment, it shall be given the opportunity for three weeks of higher education education. It is also expected that the postdoctoral fellow will cooperate with the students and the doctoral students in the research group and participate in meetings and seminars.

The aim of the project is to develop and study advanced lithographic methods, such as combining both nanoimprint (NIL) and block copolymer (BCP) lithography to grow III-V nanowires in a controlled manner for applications in electronic and optical structures. We will study NIL and electron beam applications for directed self-assembly of BCP structures to grow nanowires smaller than 20 nm in size. In addition, etching with high resolution, reactive ion etching and / or atomic layer etching, must be developed within the framework of the project.

The candidate is expected to work independently in close collaboration with other research groups, including epitaxial and component groups, who are affiliated to the project. In addition, there are also opportunities for supervision of doctoral students and degree projects.

Eligibility: A person entitled to be employed as a postdoctoral fellow is the person who has obtained a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree which is deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree, within the subject area of the employment and which has been submitted no more than three years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, a doctorate may have been submitted earlier.

Other requirements:

  • The subject area for the doctoral degree shall be physics or equivalent with a focus on nano-processing.
  • Very good knowledge of English in both speech and writing.

Assessment Bases: This is a qualification position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in the career and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merit and potential as a researcher. Particular importance will be attached to scientific ability in the subject area.

When hiring a postdoctoral fellow, the following shall form the basis for assessment:

  • Good ability to develop and implement good quality research.
  • Educational ability.

Other qualifications:

  • Experience with nanoimprint and / or block copolymer lithographic methods.
  • Experience of both electron beam lithography, dry technology (RIE).
  • We are looking for a person who is structured, goal driven and self-propelled.

Moreover, the research is to a large extent interdisciplinary, which is why a wide range of expertise and experience in relevant areas of physics, material science and nanoscience is of value. Consideration will also be given to good co-operation ability, drive and independence, and how the applicant, through his / her experience and competence, is considered to supplement and strengthen ongoing research within the institution and contribute to its future development.
