The Role

We are seeking an outstanding early career researcher in quantum science to work at the Macquarie University node of the Sydney Quantum Academy (SQA).

The successful candidate will conduct independent research and work under the supervision of one or more faculty members of the Macquarie Department of Physics and Astronomy. Both experimental and theoretical research projects are available on topics including: quantum polaritonics, quantum sensing, quantum optomechanics,quantum algorithms, quantum simulation, quantum control, and foundational theory.

About Us

The MQ Department of Physics and Astronomy has three main research areas: Photonics including Biophotonics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Quantum Physics. Macquarie has a long-standing successful history in quantum-related research. It currently hosts the Macquarie-internal Research Centre for Quantum Engineering (MQCQE) and is the third-largest node of the national ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQUS).

Macquarie is a partner in the Sydney Quantum Academy which aims to develop the quantum economy in NSW and Australia as a whole through education and industry development, and community outreach. The SQA supports cross-institutional training and joint supervision of students and early career researchers between academics at the partner universities.

  • PhD in physics or a relevant discipline.
  • Track record of experimental or theoretical quantum science research as demonstrated by international reputation, research publications and presentations, external research grants, or other relevant indicators.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research collaboratively and independently.
  • High-level communication, inter-personal, and communication skills.
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate students is considered favourably.
  • Industry experience in quantum-relevant industries is consideredfavourably.
  • Willingness to participate in teaching activities within the SQA.
