The Department of Astronomy is one of the biggest departments at the Faculty of Natural Science, altogether with about 150 employees and 2,000 students. Active research areas include planets and astrobiology, stars and supernovae, as well as galaxies and cosmology.

Project description
We seek to employ two postdoctoral researchers associated with the ERC-funded project The Metal-poor Galaxy, whose main focus is stellar spectroscopy and Galactic Archaeology.

Main responsibilities
One of the positions involves primarily the analysis and interpretation of data from million-star surveys of the Milky Way. The other is more theoretically focussed on the development of improved models of radiation transport in metal-poor stellar atmospheres with ultimate purpose to understand the origin of the elements.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills and productivity.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement.
