Postdoctoral studies in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience

Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neuroscience, Klingberg

The Department of Neuroscience includes several research groups working on different aspects of nervous system function, both under normal conditions and in various disease states. Research projects include a broad range of studies on the molecular and cellular levels, networks of neurons, and the organization of the nervous system as a whole. The Department has a flat organization with 40 research group leaders, of which 24 are full professors, and 65 PhD students.

Teaching represents a fundamental activity at the Department, which participates in several undergraduate courses and postgraduate education programs. Each year approximately 15 students receive their PhD from our Department and many of our graduates have gone onto distinguished careers in the academic or private sector.

Our research group ( focus on development and plasticity, with particular emphasis on working memory, attention and mathematics. We are now recruiting a post-doc to be involved in research regarding mathematical learning and cognitive functions.

You will have the ability to work with advanced analysis of large databases of already acquired data, as well as collecting new cognitive and neural data on children doing math training. Most importantly, we also expect you to pursue your own ideas. The methods will include both EEG, fMRI and computerized methods for assessing cognitive and mathematical functions.

The scholarship period is planned to start during the spring of 2020.

Entry requirements
The applicant should have a PhD related to cognitive neuroscience, preferably with interest in developmental aspects.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Type of scholarship
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
