The Center for Radiopharmaceuticals Antwerp (CREANT), part of Molecular Imaging and Radiology (MIRA) in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, is looking for a full-time (100%) Postdoctoral Scholarship Holder in the field of preclinical radioligand development for theranostic applications.
You will conduct research within the Radiopharmacy (CREANT) department and the Molecular Imaging Center Antwerp (MICA), focusing on the preclinical evaluation of theranostic radioligands targeting tumor-associated proteases.
Project Overview:
CREANT has expertise in the development of radiolabeled ligands for proteases implicated in human diseases, applicable in PET, SPECT, and targeted radionuclide therapy.
The team has developed novel FAP-targeted radioligands (FAPIs) with improved tumor retention and pharmacokinetics.
This project aims to conjugate these ligands with alpha-emitting radionuclides for precise tumor tissue destruction while sparing healthy organs.
The ultimate goal is to generate preclinical data to support translation into a Phase I clinical trial.
The successful candidate will:
Design, plan, and execute preclinical experiments in cell and animal cancer models.
Conduct biodistribution, dosimetry, and therapeutic efficacy studies of radiolabeled-FAPI conjugates.
Perform molecular and histological analyses of treatment effects on the tumor microenvironment.
Collaborate with radiochemistry, imaging, and oncology teams within the consortium.
Contribute to scientific publications, reports, and international conference presentations.
Doctoral degree (PhD) in oncology, cancer biology, pharmacology, radiobiology, radiopharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field from a non-Belgian institution.
Strong expertise in preclinical animal models (rodents), tumor biology, and therapeutic testing.
Hands-on experience with cell culture and in vitro assays.
Experience in small animal imaging and radiopharmaceuticals is a plus.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Excellent scientific writing and communication skills in English.
Research qualities aligned with faculty and university research policies.
Act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation.
Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge translational cancer research with direct clinical impact.
Collaborative and supportive environment within a multidisciplinary consortium.
Access to state-of-the-art preclinical imaging and radiochemistry facilities.
Opportunities for career development, mentoring, and international networking.
Full-time postdoctoral scholarship for 1 year, extendable up to 3 years after positive evaluation.
Planned start date: March 2, 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter).
Monthly scholarship amount according to postdoctoral scholarship scales for Contract Research Staff (BAP).
Ecocheques, bicycle allowance, or reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
Work location: Laboratories of Radiopharmacy and MICA at campus Drie Eiken, University of Antwerp.
